Introduction

Hello everyone! My name is Emily Augenbraun and I am a junior at Bryn Mawr College pursuing a Spanish Major and a minor in Latin American Iberian/Latino Studies. I am currently spending my semester abroad in Lima, Perú and have decided to begin this blog as a way to recap my adventures and journey. I hope you enjoy reading all about my time abroad in Lima!

¡Bienvenidos a Lima, Perú!

So I know I am kind of starting this blog a bit late in the game… I’ve already been in Lima and studying at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú for about a month and a half now. Better late than never though!

Not only is this experience of being abroad completely new for me, as I’m so used to living only 25 minutes from where my college is located back home, but it is also the longest time I have ever been away from many of my loved ones. Despite this, I am lucky enough to have an incredible host family here in Lima, Perú that have made me feel right at home. Over the weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to try so many delicious home-cooked meals and a variety of exotic fruits that we don’t have back at home in the states, such as granadilla (pictured below), chirimoya, and pepino melon. I’ve come to love Peruvian cuisine and the ingredients that are used in cooking here. Sundays are always one of my favorite days of the week because my host father chooses a specific food to cook and prepares a huge lunch for the entire family. One of the things I have had to get used to here is that lunch is the biggest meal of the day, so you basically have to fill up at lunch time so that you can make it through the rest of your day. At dinner, you eat leftover lunch food.

Here are some photographs I’ve taken over the past month or so of different foods that I’ve been indulging in:

Papa a la Huancaína
Churros!Causa Rellena  Ensalada Rusa con Pechuga de Pollo Chancho (Pig)  Arroz Chaufa

Granadilla (a favorite fruit of mine that I discovered here in Perú!)

Sopa a la Criolla
Cocona de la Selva Variety of fruits from a market nearby where I’m living in Miraflores
